Abstract

Vision impairments, particularly refractive errors, represent a significant challenge affecting students' academic performance in Indonesia, especially in rural areas. This community service program aimed to enhance students' visual quality while supporting their academic achievements through the provision of free eyeglasses at SMKN 1 Cijulang. The program involved comprehensive eye examinations, refractive measurements, and eyeglass distribution for students in need of vision correction, particularly those with myopia, astigmatism, anisometropia, and amblyopia. Among the 52 students identified with refractive errors, 35 students (70 eyes) received free eyeglasses. The program results showed that the majority of refractive errors identified were myopia (51.43%) and astigmatism (40%), with accompanying conditions such as amblyopia (25.71%) and anisometropia (17.15%). Most eyeglass recipients were 10th-grade students (77.14%), with a predominance of female students (57.14%). The program demonstrated a significant positive impact, improving students' visual quality and potentially enhancing their concentration and academic performance. In addition to providing practical solutions for vision correction, this program raised awareness among students and parents about the importance of routine eye examinations. The success of this initiative highlights the potential of school-based interventions as an effective model for addressing vision health challenges in rural areas, with great potential for replication in other regions.
