Abstract

English is an international language essential for global communication. In Indonesia, English is typically introduced from elementary school to higher education. However, curriculum changes under the 2013 Curriculum
have made English a non-mandatory subject, creating challenges in primary education, particularly in rural areas. This study examines the English learning experiences and proficiency levels of elementary students in Cimari Village, Cikoneng. Observations revealed that English instruction was limited to Grades 1 and 4 under the Independent Curriculum due to a lack of qualified teachers. To address this issue, an English Fun Class program was conducted on August 16, 2023, at MI Al-Hidayah Sukasirna, utilizing game-based learning to
improve students' vocabulary and engagement. Activities included ice-breaking, singing, and interactive games such as guessing pictures and scrabble. Results demonstrated significant improvements in student motivation, engagement, and vocabulary acquisition. This highlights the effectiveness of game-based learning in fostering language skills in resource-limited settings. Schools are encouraged to integrate similar programs to ensure consistent English education for elementary students.
