Abstract

According to WHO, the world is now inhabited by 171 million DM sufferers in 2000 and will increase by 2 times, 266 million by 2030. Avocado plant known as avocado (Persea americana Mill) is very much found in Indonesia. Although not native to Indonesia, but its existence is not foreign to the community. The content of active substances found in avocado leaves (Persea americanna mill) is flavonoids and quercetin. High levels of flavonoids are antioxidants, antioxidants are very useful in lowering blood glucose levels through improved function of the pancreas. The result of avocado leaf extract was done by fractionation process by liquid-liquid extraction to separate the secondary metabolite compound based on the polarity level. The inducers used were alloxan with a dose of 175 mg / kg of rats given intra-peritoneal mice. The results showed that the extract of ethanol avocado leaf dose 700 mg / 200-gram body weight of the rat, polar fraction dose 474 mg / 200-gram body weight of rats, non-polar fraction dose 82,6 mg / 200-gram body weight of mouse have activity as antidiabetic. And the semi-polar fraction with dose 23 mg / 200 gram the body weight of mouse has activity and effectivity as antidiabetic which is equal to glibenclamide dose 0,09 mg / 200-gram body weight of mice with decrease blood glucose level equal to 47,87%. The result of statistical analysis paired test sample showed significant difference for semi-polar and non-polar fraction with significant value 2-tailed <0,05.
